AI is rapidly advancing, and with these advancements come both benefits and drawbacks. The benefits are that our general knowledge will increase, leading to a significant surge in technological advancements. However, one of the downfalls of AI is that it can endanger our education and careers. The good news is that we can put a stop to that. Teachers, school officials, app developers, and students themselves need to limit AI for students, as AI is causing a rise in academic dishonesty, a lack of critical thinking, and a decrease in critical thinking for students all over, which can cause students to fail later in life.
Recently, AI has become some students’ first pick when things get hard in school, and this has very negative consequences. According to “What Happens After A.I. Destroys College Writing?” by Hua Hsu, he interviews 2 college undergraduates who use AI to do their work, and they admit to underlearning and don’t take much away from the class.
Hua Hsu isn’t the only one who has seen students underperform, as in my school, some of my classmates who use AI to do all of their work usually end up just barely passing and never learn anything from the class.
The real question is what would happen to these people if they got their degrees and got a job? Will they underperform? Almost certainly. If these students use AI to do all of their work on the job, the company may as well replace them with AI itself, and they probably will if they find out. That is also a potential variable in AI replacing jobs, because employers will find out that their employees are using AI, so they decide to lay them off in exchange for AI, which would be a grim future.
What about the parts that AI can’t do? That’s where their flaws truly show. They will be exposed, and their employer will fire them, leading to failure. So in the end, AI isn’t just an easy way out for students, nor is it just to keep academic honesty low; it’s also to give the students a bright and successful future, free of jeopardizing their jobs because they chose to use AI for all of their schoolwork.
So what path will you take? Will you take the easy route and let AI do your work, ultimately leading to failure, or will you act against AI and save your future?
