AI continues to get better. Everyday new innovations come out that further AI into an integral part of society. According to the Center for Security and Emerging Technology, the research being done on AI has been exponentially growing since 2015. As a result, AI has enabled humanity to do away with mundane tasks once needed to be done by a person, as well as enabled scientists to be able to solve problems at record pace.
However, AI is heavily influencing education. More high schoolers now than ever before are able to cheat on assignments and avoid learning with simple prompts. As a result, high schoolers aren’t practicing important skills, such as reading, writing, and math skills, that they would usually need to graduate high school as well as succeed in life.
So how should humanity fight back against AI? Maybe humanity doesn’t have to.
Khan Academy has already taken steps to improve AI’s condition in education. Khanmigo, Khan academy’s new AI program, is designed to be personable to the student while also aiming to correct the student and better the students skills in a variety of subjects.
Khanmigo serves to support people in a way that will make them excel in life and pursue new horizons. This is a completely different outlook on AI in education that is a super beneficiary. However, Khanmigo isn’t enough to combat the declining math, reading, and english skills of high schoolers. More AI programs that support human intelligence should be pushed for so that high schoolers can begin to use AI in a supportive way.
The next working generation of the world is fighting a battle with AI that makes it impossible to experience the same world older generations once did, but that doesn’t mean the new world has to be worse. AI can be used to show kids the exciting new innovations of technology that make life worth living. AI doesn’t have to be the bad guy.
