Athena Song

Who is on two hockey teams, taking two ap classes, advanced in math, in track, has a boyfriend, and has managed to not go crazy? That’s right, it’s Athena Song.

When asking Athena about how she handles her crazy schedule, she stressed that time management is key. “If you don’t manage your time, you can easily work on something for too long and not leave enough time for you to do other work” says Athena. Athena has been able to successfully incorporate this advice into her daily life. She knows how long she needs to work on something and doesn’t procrastinate, unlike many high schoolers.

A lot of the time, Athena is gone due to hockey. This year she was on varsity for Ames High Hockey and the Lady Blues (a hockey team in Missouri). Last year, Athena went to a private school in Culver, Indiana where she played hockey. When asked why she gives up so much of her time for hockey she replied with “I like hockey because it has allowed me to grow in different ways through confidence and other characteristics but it is also something that has given me so many new experiences and it allows to see the world. Without it, I would never have gone to Culver or have a chance at going to any of the colleges I want to go to” says Athena. Hockey is a big part of her life, and she plans to go far in playing hockey. She has already made several college visits for hockey and is planning on making more trips.

When Athena isn’t busy on the ice, she is hanging out with her friends (after homework, of course). She loves to be outdoors with friends but also likes to sometimes just stay at home, watch a movie, and relax. “It’s all about balance. I don’t want to tire myself out too much” says Athena. Some of Athena’s favorite activities to do with friends are hiking, playing sand volleyball, and just talking to get to know the other person better.

Athena loves to meet new people, and she always manages to have a smile on her face even when she is under loads of stress. So if you see her in the hallway, or really anywhere, don’t be afraid to go introduce yourself. I guarantee that she will greet you with a great smile, and will talk to you as if you two have known each other for years.
