As the school district has been facing huge cuts recently, the athletics budget at Ames High has been greatly affected. Before this year, every athlete had to pay a $40 athletic fee for every sport they participated in. These changes with athletic fees have left the sports teams with very minimal amounts of money to fund their programs. At the Ames Community School District school board meeting last week, Superintendent Linda Beyea presented the proposed budget for the district. Under the category of New Costs a $43,000 amount to replace lost fee revenue for athletic budget assistance was proposed. It is still undecided whether the school district will replace this fee. If they do choose to replace it, there will be little to no change to athletics at the high school. However if they choose not to replace the fee many changes will go into effect next year.
