The Ames High student council has written a series of letters to state representatives to encourage the reorganization of state budget resources with regards to public schools. Currently, state educational funds are divided into specific fixed groupings that determine how the funds can be spent. The student council is proposing a more fluid method with less boundaries in which more money could be spent on programs that are most beneficial to students’ educations. "We’re sending these letters to the state legislature to not only express our concern for the condition of the budget but also propose creative solutions," Ames High co-president Seth Forsgren said. He added that "because the issue is a statewide thing, [the student council] is also encouraging other schools to send similar letters." He also said that there was interest in "bringing in a state representative to discuss the issue and explain it in more detail."
