Echosmith Concert

On Tuesday, February 10th, the Californian band of 4 siblings, Echosmith, kicked off their tour here in Ames at the Memorial Union. I have never been a huge fan of the band, but tickets were only 20 dollars, and I’ll go see famous people for 20 dollars.

Before showing up, I didn’t really know what to expect. I only knew one of their songs, “Cool Kids,” The Billboard song that practically everyone knows. I found a spot in the room filled with hipsters and guys with man buns.. Soon enough, their opening band, “The Colourist,” came out to preform. I had never heard of them before but they were actually really good. I will bet money that someday they will become super famous and I will be able to say that I saw them live.

Once they were finished, we had to wait for almost 30 minutes before Echosmith came out. The wait was semi grueling until the crowd spontaneously came together to sing the ever so famous ballad “I Want it That Way” by the Backstreet Boys. Finally, after secretly recording us singing, the band came out to bless us with their presence.

Right after the first song ended, I realized the wait between bands was worth it and I was so glad I bought my ticket. The next couple minutes flew by as they played a variety of instruments from the guitar to the cello, and sang some great songs. They ended with the hit that everyone that was there (including me) knew, “Cool Kids.” Everyone sang along as the lead singer, Sydney, gave an inspiring speech about being an outcast. They were so full of energy, making the crowd want more and more. Infact, after the crowd chanted “One more song!” they came back out to not only play one, but two more songs.

Afterwards, I got to take a picture with the band and they even signed their autographs onto my snapchat because I was too cheap to buy a poster for them to sign. Overall, it was a great night filled with awesome vibes. I am looking forward to see the success this band has in the future. Ranging from the ages of 16-21, these siblings hold an insane amount of talent and I am so glad I got to see them preform.
