Postseason recapSwimmers 5th at State

The Ames High boys’ swim team finished their season Saturday, February 9th at the Marshalltown YMCA. Ames placed fifth place. The team qualified for state with a convincing team victory at the district meet. Among those competing for Ames were junior Steve Stark in the 100 meter freestyle (right), junior Scotty Strehlow in the 500 freestyle (receiving his second place medal, bottom), and Stark, junior Lucas Borg, and sophomore Talor Kutchen in the 200 meter medley (bottom right). The picture on the front page was of junior Ben Utesch, receiving a medal for a third place finish in the 100 meter butterfly (photos by Will Rundle). In other postseason news, Taylor Knight and Riley Banach qualified for the state wrestling meet. Girls basketball will play their first substate game tomorrow, Saturday, February 16th at the Ames High gym. Their opponent had not been determined at the time that this issue of The WEB went to press. Boys basketball will play their last regular season game tonight in the Ames High gym against Indianola. Their postseason will begin with a home game Friday, February 22nd against an undetermined opponent. Best of luck to all Ames High teams in postseason play!
