Art Rocks

On September 27, Inuit artist Peter Irniq spoke to teacher Shelli Hassebrock’s 3rd period class at Brookside Park. He showed his unfinished sculpture (standing short behind the class above) to AHS art classes throughout the day. He has built others like it around Ames parks, but he says this new sculpture will “blow you away”. To make sure the sculpture itself doesn’t get blown away, his crew spends time securing the rocks together by drilling pipes through the base rocks. Irniq brings his unique artistic style of “inuksuk” building to Ames all the way from Nunavut, Canada.
