end of fall sports

End of fall Jacob Rogers Its the end of fall and Ames High has sure had some ups and downs. Academics and sports both have proved to be some of the best in the state. In sports Girls Cross Country were state qualifiers under the coaching of Coach Schmatlz and Coach Cogdill.Courtney Martin proved to be quite the runner being conference champ. Boys Cross Country is coached by Coach Mooney and they were state qualifiers. Also the were conference champs, District champs, and 9th in the state. Our football team did a great job under head Coach Vertanen, making the cut and state qualifying even with their injured players they proved to be a team to beat. Girls swimming have won regional making it their third time around and have state qualified. Girls swimming brought home the gold and are 3 time state champs. Volleyball came around and showed everybody what was up going undefeated and winning conference. Boys golf were also state qualifiers and did their best. Our Cheerleaders showed what they have prepared for state at the assembly on November 4, 11. With high flying acrobatics and tumbling with swagger. Winning a few of the competitions they bring home some trophies. Seniors who made all state are Louis Dupuis, Joel Heilmen, Bryan Graveline, and Charlie Rathe. It’s tough making the cut but Ames proves to get it done with a great group of kids going. Quiz bowl also did a great bringing home the first and second trophies. They went up against twenty other teams and in the end had Ames versus Ames. Clearly Ames High is making Principle Spence Evans proud to wear the colors Black and Orange.
