In the past few years the game, Senior Assassin, has become very popular and done at many schools. Ames high has been participating for the past couple of years. Senior assassin is a student-run game consisting of getting a target you must shoot with a water gun in one week. There are many safe zones and a new safety item each week, which protects you even if shot with a water gun. There are lots of different versions, some using apps to run it or just saying you have to get your target out with any form of water, like a water bucker, balloon, gun, etc. This year many students were excited to be involved in playing the game. As, at Ames high you pay $5 dollars to participate, the winner wins all of the money paid.
Senior Assassin isn’t just fun though. Many people can be hurt or find themselves in difficult situations. With many people hiding or using odd tactics to get their target out and win the game. There’s been a recent event where a student at another school hid underneath a car and then was severely injured being run over by said vehicle.
There was also a new case of one student who was reported having a real gun, even though it was just a water gun, and the police came to arrest him. The student didn’t do anything wrong but with the American world we live in the worst is assumed when there’s a gun threat.
Ames is very lucky to have not had any of these dangerous situations or accidents. I would personally give a big shout out to the seniors running the game this year because they have put many rules in place that have helped us avoid these kinds of accidents in Ames. In AHS Senior Assassin one of the game rules was no battery powered water guns. Another being, waiting only for 30 minutes or less when trying to get to your target. Some rules may seem unreasonable for impatient seniors however, these rules help protect students.
