New Miyazaki Movie

Studio Ghibli, the producer of My Neighbor Totoro , Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away , has announced a new movie to be released. It will be directed by none other than the legendary Japanese filmmaker, Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki, who was responsible for all of the above films, has not directed a film since the release of Ponyo in 2008, however, he was a co-writer for The Secret World of Arriety . Miyazaki’s works are all characterized by their vivid screenplays and fascinating storylines. He is also known to take on a share of the physical animation himself and is dedicated to making the animation as perfect as possible. The new film, set to be released in summer 2013 (Japan only) is titled The Wind is Rising , or Kaze Tachinu . It is sure to be just as good as his previous works. The film is based off of a manga that Miyazaki wrote and had been serialized in a monthly magazine called Model Graphix in 2009. The story is said to be from a novel called Kaze Tachinu by author Tatsuo Hori in 1937. Though there has been very little released about the movie itself, the general storyline is somewhat of a docudrama about Jiro Horikoshi, who designed the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter planes used by Japan during World War II. Miyazaki seems to have a fascination with flight, as seen in some of his previous movies such as Kiki’s Delivery Service or Howl’s Moving castle. Though only the Japanese release date has been confirmed so far, the U.S. release should not be far behind. Unfortunately, we will all have to wait for the English premiere to experience Miyazaki’s latest, and sure to be great creation. Unless, of course, you happen to speak Japanese.
