Star Wars: The Force Awakens

March 2, 2016
After many years of torturous waiting, it has finally happened. A new Star Wars film has been released, and let me tell you, Star Wars: The Force Awakens surprised me in too many ways to count.
To those who don’t know, Star Wars, is basically about a ragtag trio, who get thrown into the adventure of a lifetime. The original trilogy, focuses on main character Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, and space cowboy, Han Solo. Their ultimate goal, to defeat the Lord Darth Vader and save the galaxy.
With all this in mind, it’s hard to believe that Disney would be able to create a new story, with new characters, that could be as amazing as the original, and yet, they did. The Force Awakens, now focuses on a young female named Rey, just waiting for the day her family would return to her. She is content to spend her days on a lonely planet, scavenging parts from ships every day, just so she has enough to eat. Then, a runaway stormtrooper, given the name Finn, and an adorable droid BB-8, with an important mission, land in her life, and she has no choice but to help them.
Overall, this movie was AMAZING. It did a good job of introducing a new story to the viewers. but incorporating the old characters like Chewie and Han really helped to make the movie still feel like a classic Star Wars film. The thing I loved most about it, was not how dramatic the new “villain” Kylo Ren is, nor how gobsmacking the graphics were. It was how strong willed Rey is portrayed. I can already tell she is going to become a great role model for young girls.
So, no matter what decade you grew up in, or whether you’re a new fan or an old fan, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is definitely a must see this year.

McKenzie Reimer is a creature of bad habit. When not hiding in her room from the crippling responsibility of growing up, she can usually be found working...
